The book Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha Lai is a story based on the author’s childhood account. It is about her experience fleeing from Saigon to America with her family. The theme that stood out to me the most were the cultural differences that she endured during her journey. Ha grew up in Vietnam where everyone had the same culture. To be now sent to America , where it is a melting pot of Cultures was difficult. Cultural differences are evident in the foods that they are presented with, the color of their skin and religious differences. One cultural difference is food. Ha was used to fresh foods from her farm.
